Itinerary

In 2023, we travelled in Turkiye for a month (October 11 through November 11). There were two legs in this tour.

The second leg of the tour (encircled in red on map) was organized by Alkan Travel based in Van, Eastern Turkiye. We flew from Istanbul to meet the tour at Trabzon on the Black Sea coast. The tour was all done riding a comfortable minibus. We went through a lot of sights, towns, ruins in the 14 days.

Eastern Turkiye is the Kurdish part of Turkiye. This area had changed hands from various empires in the past. The mixture of historical towns and ruins, cultures and modern day developments in this region is fascinating.

The first leg of the tour (red lines on map) was 16 days long. It was organized by the Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT). It started in Istanbul from which we flew to Cappadocia. Then we went by bus to meet our gullet (a traditional Turkish boat) at Fathiye on the Mediterranean coast, visting Konya, Antalya, Perge and others on the way. The gullet cruise went from Fathiye to Marmaris, anchoring at various inlets from swimming, kayaking and hiking as well as visiting historical sites. After the gullet leg, we went by bus and ended up in the famous Ephesus and finally flew back to Istanbul from Izmir.
